I’m from the East Coast, and for years, I’ve been searching for my niche. My path has been anything but linear — from earning a business degree, to getting my paralegal certification, to working toward a teaching credential, all while taking care of those around me. I’ve always been the go-to person for others, whether it was being a nanny throughout college, or simply baking for everyone, going to doctor’s appointments, or running errands. Taking care of people is just who I am.
When my mom got sick, I started experimenting with recipes that had both protein and sweetness — something she loved. At the same time, my son was a picky eater, so I had to get creative in making treats they’d both enjoy. Baking became my therapy, a way to de-stress, much like running and yoga. I would bake whatever I could to nourish them both, and over the years, I realized how much joy it brought me.
One day, someone close to me told me I should turn my love for baking into a business. That’s when the idea for The Giving Treats was born. Originally, it was going to be called “KC’s Killer Balls,” but I realized that didn’t quite reflect who I am. I’ve always been someone who gives — that’s my heart. And one of my favorite books, The Giving Tree, felt like the perfect inspiration. So, I proudly present to you: The Giving Treats.
The Giving Treats were created for my family. My mom had cancer and my son was a picky eater, together I found a happy medium to please them both. Nuts for the nutty growing child and sweetness for the sweetest mom a daughter could ever have. I used what we had and just experimented as I produced these amazing treats. My love for baking always came from the reaction I would receive from those I shared with.
Eyes would light up and smiles would form when I shared my homemade treats. I always knew my purpose was to fill the bellies of those in my life with love and goodness.
